PRE & POST WAXING TIPS

Before your Wax

 

Preparing properly before a waxing session can help ensure a smoother experience and better results. Here are some essential tips to consider before your next wax appointment:

  • Length of Hair: Ensure your hair is at least 1/4 inch long but no longer than 1/2 inch. This length is ideal because it allows the wax to grip the hair effectively without causing too much pain.

  • Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate the area to be waxed the day before your appointment. This removes dead skin cells and can help prevent ingrown hairs.

  • Moisturize: Keep your skin hydrated in the days leading up to your wax, but avoid moisturizing on the day of your waxing session as it can interfere with hair removal.

  • Avoid Sun Exposure: Stay out of the sun 24-48 hours before waxing to avoid sensitizing your skin, which can lead to excessive redness or irritation post-wax.

  • Check for Skin Sensitivity: If you have sensitive skin, or are using products with retinoids or acne treatments, consult with your esthetician before your appointment as these products can affect skin sensitivity.

  • Pain Relief: Consider taking an over-the-counter pain reliever, such as ibuprofen, about 30 minutes before your appointment to help minimize discomfort.

  • Wear Comfortable Clothing: Choose loose, comfortable clothing on the day of your wax to avoid irritation on the waxed areas post-session.

  • No Alcohol or Caffeine: Avoid consuming alcohol and caffeine before your waxing session, as they can increase skin sensitivity.

  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water before your appointment to keep your skin hydrated, as hydrated skin tends to have a less painful waxing experience.

  • Timing: Try to schedule your waxing session at least a few days before or after your menstrual cycle, as skin can be more sensitive during this time.By following these tips, you can help ensure a more effective and comfortable waxing session.

After your Wax

Taking proper care of your skin after a waxing session is crucial for maintaining smooth and healthy skin. Here are some essential post-wax care tips:

 

  • Avoid Heat: For the first 24-48 hours after waxing, avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and direct sunlight, as your pores are open and more susceptible to irritation and bacteria.

  • Stay Cool: Apply a cold compress or aloe vera gel to soothe the skin if you experience redness or discomfort after waxing.

  • Wear Loose Clothing: Choose loose, soft clothing to avoid friction and irritation on the waxed areas.

  • No Swimming: Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools or the ocean immediately after waxing to prevent irritation and infection.

  • Avoid Physical Exertion: Skip the gym or any activities that cause excessive sweating for at least 24 hours after waxing. Sweat can irritate freshly waxed skin.

  • Moisturize: After the initial 24 hours, keep the waxed area moisturized with a fragrance-free, gentle lotion or cream to keep the skin smooth and prevent ingrown hairs.

  • Exfoliate: About two to three days after waxing, gently exfoliate the waxed area to remove dead skin cells and prevent ingrown hairs. Continue to exfoliate 2-3 times a week thereafter.

  • No Touching: Avoid touching the waxed area with unwashed hands to prevent the spread of bacteria and possible infection.

  • Avoid Tight Clothing: Tight clothing can cause irritation and ingrown hairs. Opt for looser fits to allow the skin to breathe.

  • Check Product Ingredients: Avoid products containing acids, alcohol, and fragrances that can irritate the waxed area.
