Swedish vs. Deep Tissue vs. Custom Massage
Not sure which modality is right for you? Here’s how to think about it:
-
Swedish Massage, Best for stress relief, relaxation, and full-body calm. Lighter-to-medium pressure, flowing strokes.
-
Custom Massage, A fully personalized blend that may include Swedish technique, therapeutic spot work, aromatherapy, warm towels, or hot stone accents, calibrated to your body that day.
-
Deep Tissue Massage, Best for chronic tension, muscle tightness, and athletic recovery. Slower strokes, sustained firmer pressure, more therapeutic intent.
If you’re between options, Swedish is almost always the right starting point. From there, you can layer in deeper work or specific therapeutic focus as needed.

What’s the difference between Swedish massage and a regular massage?
Swedish massage is the classic, relaxation-focused massage style that most people picture when they imagine “getting a massage.” It uses flowing strokes, gentle kneading, and rhythmic pressure designed to calm the nervous system and ease everyday tension.
Is Swedish massage too light to be effective?
Not at all. Swedish pressure is intentionally gentler than deep tissue, but it’s deeply effective for stress relief, circulation, sleep, and overall nervous system reset. Different modalities solve different problems, Swedish is the right tool for the relaxation job.
How long should I book?
60 minutes is the most popular all-around option. If you want a deeper integration or have multiple focus areas, the 90-minute session gives your therapist more space to work. The 45-minute option is a great quick reset.
How often should I book Swedish massage?
Many clients enjoy monthly Swedish sessions as a sustainable self-care rhythm. Some book biweekly during stressful seasons. Even occasional sessions deliver meaningful relief.
Will I be fully undressed?
You’ll undress to your level of comfort. Your therapist will leave the room, and you’ll be securely draped throughout the entire session, only the area being worked on is uncovered at any time.
What should I do before my session?
Hydrate, avoid a heavy meal in the hour before your appointment, and arrive a few minutes early to settle in. If there are specific areas you want focused on, just mention them during your check-in.
